Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding the portal
- What is the procedure to get an account?
- To work with this portal there is no need to have an account. Some services, however, like
loading your schedule or looking at your marks necessitate that you are authenticated. There
are following steps:
- You first register under a username/password of your choice. As long as the username is still not taken, you can pick any name (max. 8 characters) you like. If you are a student you might want to pick your student ID but there is no need for this.
- Once you have an account you might complete your personalia, among them some identity information. This identity is - of course - worthless - until someone has proven that account and identity belong together. This process is called certification and is either done by tutors in case of students or by the Avatar himself.
- As part of the certification step you also will get some privileges, i.e. roles which you can fill in the portal. One such role could be student at a specific course or administrator for a set of courses.
- I forgot my account information and cannot login anymore. What can I do?
- You can either use the reminder facility or - as a last resort - mail the Avatar.
- I can log in but with the next request I am logged out again. There is definitely something wrong with the portal.
- I would rather suggest that you check your time setting on the browser side. If the server sends a cookie and that is immediately obsolete, then the browser will not send the cookie back. The server will assume you are a new user.
- I believe to have found a bug in the portal. What should I do?
- It only makes sense to mail to the Avatar if you prepare a decent bug report. A message like something went wrong somewhere, can you fix it? is difficult to deal with. A report should include all relevant details, as there are your account, a short description what you wanted to do, information you have entered in a form and the precise reaction of the portal at a particular time. Thanks for your consideration.
